INTERNATIONAL CRIMINAL COURT: WILL IT WORK

Well most of us wont be knowing that such a court exists. Established in 1998 and enforced in 2002, this court has been working toward tackling the crimes against humanity. The court came into limelight on march 4, 2009 after issuing arrest warrant against Sudanese president Omar-al-bashir. The charges are of war crimes and crimes against humanity. This has lead to new discussion in world order. Some are crying for the penetration in their sovereignity and some claiming it to be justice. Amidst all these issues, One may wonder, How significat ICC is?

One may wonder, is it mandatory for justice to be served? Few can claim it to be emotionally satisfying and nailing the culprit to be a discouraging factor for more crimes. While well known scholar Mr. Ramesh thakur claims justice to be backward looking, finger pointing and retributive. Like gandhi he is a follower of peace which is foreward looking, problem solving and integrative.

In present scenario every crusade for providing justice meets so many roadblocks. It wont be inappropriate to doubt the feasiblity of justice in case of genocide and war crimes. The charges of being racist on ICC cant also be shrugged off. Ofcource main problem is whether the countries wants to accept it or not. If u deliver justice, we wont ever know had it rightly been served. If it is not, then is ICC credible enough.

Countries like U.S.A and china or not a part of it. Every when is asking why ICC closed it's eyes during IRAQ war. World is watching whether ICC can frame and indict sudanese governement or not. Even if The president is brought to law, will he be penalised ever.

However, no one can doubt that it is a long awaited step toward being human. Framing such a law is only a major step. However, U.S.A will have to join it and china will have to open his eyes for it to work. And ICC itself will have to be impartial. Everyone is doubting it to be free from world politics.

Let's see what holds in future.
